Dice Race
Dice faces are a fixed pattern, so your child starts to know each amount by its shape.
You need
- 1 die (a big soft one is best)
- a cup or bowl to roll it in
How to play
- Shake the die in the cup and tip it out.
- Both of you call out the number as fast as you can.
- Touch each dot together to check.
- Whoever was right takes a turn to roll next.
Guess first
Shout your guess first. Then we touch the dots and see if we were right.
Three things to ask
- Which number is the easiest to spot?
- Six looks like two threes. Can you see them?
- Was there a time you guessed wrong? What did it look like?
Easier
Cover the 6 face with a sticker so only 1–5 come up.
Harder
Roll two dice and ask which one has more, without counting.
Watch for
Getting faster over a few days matters more than getting every roll right. Let your child win often at first.
Safety
A small die is a choking hazard for children under 3. Use a big soft die, and put small ones away after play.
