Bottle Bowling
Knocked down plus still standing is always ten, so your child practises the pairs that make ten while playing.
You need
- 10 empty plastic bottles
- a soft ball
How to play
- Stand the 10 bottles in a group and count them together.
- Your child rolls the ball at them.
- Count how many fell down.
- Ask how many are still standing, then check.
- Stand them up and take turns.
Guess first
Four fell down. How many do you think are still standing? Count them and see.
Three things to ask
- Could you tell how many were standing without counting them?
- What would you need to knock down for a strike?
- If 9 fall, how many are left?
Easier
Use 5 bottles.
Harder
Guess how many will fall before each roll, and keep score on paper.
Watch for
Pairs like 5 and 5 or 9 and 1 tend to stick first. If your child counts every bottle every time, that's still useful practice.
